Archway Revival
Architectural Elements
Brookfield, WI
This project, located in Brookfield, WI, began with the discovery of significant wood rot behind the stone columns at the home’s entryway. The issue was caused by a lack of proper water drainage, which forced water to run directly down the stone walls, leading to long-term moisture damage. The homeowner wanted to explore various options for redesigning the entryway but was clear about one thing—they wanted to preserve the existing arch and create a more grand, welcoming entrance.
To help guide their decision, we provided detailed 3D renderings showcasing multiple column design options that maintained the integrity of the arch. In the end, the homeowners chose to rebuild the stone walls in a style similar to the original, while also incorporating essential improvements: proper gutters and roofing were added to protect the structure and stonework from future water damage. The result is a beautiful, lasting entryway that honors the original design while addressing the structural issues for long-term durability.
